˝I started playing chess when I was very little but then it turned out that I probably would never get above a certain level and as there wasn’t such training background and help, who would have helped me evolve, I started to concentrate on why it was not going as well as much energy I had put in it.”
“So you analysed your situation…”
“Yes, I did. Maybe it is in connection with what I deal with now; I study informatics, and psychology. Besides these, anyway I started to organise the progress of the little team at a association, so the members can play matches. Since then another association has taken us over and we also became Budapest Champions, first the number of members increased to fifty and there may be more than a hundred people in it.”
“So practically you made a whole section “come to be alive”?”
“Yes, practically that is the case. I took part in it, indeed. The challenge and also the aim is to create a structure that works, is timeless and can be developed; we want to manage an association, where things can develop.”
“What age groups are involved and what level do you play at?”
“The new generation, the U18 is very strong; but some play in the national championship 2, this means the 3rd league here, by the way. In chess the Hungarian Championship 1 is the only one where you can find only professionals at every board. You could say that one third of our players are professionals so we concentrate on the next generation mostly.”
“And what about young talents? How much can you see if there are some talents among your youngsters who may reach international success?”
“It cannot be seen yet, and if there are, they may be around 8-10 years old.”
“How does somebody become a Grand Master? What is necessary for that?”
“Chess is a fairly measurable sport. The live point counting tells who is strong and how much. Of course, if you beat a stronger player, you get a higher score, and to become an international Grand Master you have to reach a quite high score. “
