„Where have you been in the world as a musician?”
“I have been to almost half of it. I was in America, Miami, Japan and other places in the Far East. By the way, I am not a musician originally but a teacher with three degrees. I graduated from TF (University of Physical Education), then the Maths teacher and Pedagogy majors, of course. But the school where I taught was closed and teachers are always sent away with a flea in their ears. Usually I play here when I am at home but in the last two years I spent nine months in Japan twice.”
“How did you get there? Did you just go and gave it a go?”
“Not exactly. I was playing in Budapest when a Japanese guy came to me who was looking for musicians to his amusement park. He invited me too, with 61 other musicians, we were there for a week, he paid all expenses, even my girlfriend could come with me, and it was some kind of competition, anyway. At the end, he chose an American jazz musician and me. Since then, I visit every now and then; he also helps me to get the Japanese citizenship.”
“What got hold of you most there?”
“Japanese people are very sweet, the whole country; it is like a planet in another planet. They can be really glad, not just faking it like the Europeans. They are a bit pervert, which is not a problem, and they are childish, but I like that too. Thirty year old men walk around with a teddy bear on their backs. The park where we play, by the way it was opened by Michael Jackson at the time, is amazing. It is as big as our whole downtown. It is a totally different world. And the mentality there, that they help each other, and that they turn to each other with a pure heart, I do not think, it can be learnt. Or maybe with a lot of energy and time.”
