„Although I wasn´t born in Budapest, I grew up here. It´s a determining experience that I lived in the 17th district for a long time so I had this desire early to move to the down town. Before this night bus system started, we either had to get home before midnight or walk all the way home. When I went to university, I was very interested in what was happening in the city. I travelled a lot, it took me one and a half hour to get to the university or where I was working. I have serious experience, I talked to people, I saw what was happening, how things were changing during a renovation or how different lines are connected to make transportation easier. The járókelő.hu, that has been operating since 2012 October, has come to live to deal with the problems of the city except denunciations. Anybody who is at least a little bit interested in the problems the city has to fight with can take a picture, write about it and send it to us; and our task is to convey these to the involved organisations which are the local governments, municipal services, etc.” “You must meet a lot of interesting cases during these reports...” “Yes, for example reports about homeless people are borderline cases. In many cases, it doesn´t only refer to garbage being there or a part of the square cannot be reached like in Batthyány Square but the person wants the people there to be delivered from the area and the lack of tolerance and understanding and the growing tension can be felt. But for example, there is a 19-year old guy, who is one of our most active reporters, he realises the very common, problematic things, he takes a picture and sends it to us, he has already sent us hundreds of reports. It was interesting for example that somebody said that the clock of the Avila St. Thereasa Church was slow. We got in touch with the parish and they wrote to us that they knew about it and there is a person who goes up every week to wind the clock but the structure is so old that this delay is inevitable. A suggestion came that it should be changed and the answer, rightly of course, was that it is a unique old construction that is remarkable.” “What actual project is running now?” “We started raising funds on the page adjukössze.hu to start járókelő.hu in 5 other cities. We think it is important that the citizens of these towns feel that the project is theirs; people can apply to be a volunteer on the website, also.”
